Final StoryBoard

Here is our final storyboard. From developing our storyboard, we've have made it more detailed from including different camera shots, locations used and timing. From the previous storyboard that we had done, this one has helped us even more as we know what were doing for each scene very well, what locations are meant for which scene and also it has helped us see as to how the editing for the video shall be from viewing the different shots and clearly listening back to the track and looking at our storyboard has given us a clear image of how are music video shall be.

What we did today

In today's lesson, we had improved our storyboard and had started again as we did not
add enough detail to the other one such as, timing, camera shot. Therefore, we shall be working on
our storyboards with as much detail as possible so that when the time comes to shoot the
video, the storyboard shall guide us in the right direction and make us more prepared.

What we did today

Here shows the group and I developing our ideas for the music video onto the
our storyboards in which we bag to add more detail onto and annotated lyric sheet.
Also on the computer screens, it shows before we were looking at music videos
for more inspiration for our video and also us listening back to the track and
identifying the scenes for each lyric.

What we did today

In today's lesson, we've drawn out so far the first and second scene of the video. We've seen how helpful so far the storyboard has been for us from the angles and seeing what scene suits what and in which part of the song. We have also written lyrics onto the story board so that it is very descriptive and very useful to use when filming and editing.

Annotated Lyrics

In today's lesson, my group and I printed out the lyrics to the song and began anotating the lyrics in which we had discussed what locations, and narrative were taken place at which specific lines. Also which camera angles and shots we were were thinking of using for the scenes in the lyrics. This had helped us a lot to have a clear image of what we would need to do for each scene of the song at which this had prepared us to start on drawing out our storyboard.

Updated Treatment Pitch

This is the updated version of the treatment pitch. After we received feedback from the audience, my group and I decided to update our treatment. We thought that our treatment needed more detail and well thought plan to how our video will be from the concept, the costume, props and locations we thought of filming.

Treatment Pitch and Feedback

The video is of the group and I presenting our treatment pitch to the rest of the class. This video shows feedback from the audience in which in tells what could be improved to our thoughts and ideas of our music video. The audience had asked many questions on our plans for the video and also most on its concept and we managed to answer the questions in the best way possible.

The audience liked the track 'Jealous Type' that we've chosen for the music video, which was good to hear as this age group is what we shall be appealing to as our targeted audience. My group and I didn't plan our pitch well as we were still at the stage of thinking what was the concept of the video and if we were going to make it narrative or performance. Also, the discussion of locations were brought up in our team meetings in lesson however they were not initial yet. This caused confusion to the audience on what we intended on doing for our music video and involved them asking even more questions which we try our best in answering. We've decided to add another female actor to the video considering the tracks narrative it suits the video well and would make more sense for the audience. but we are still in the process of doing so.

Therefore, my group and I really need to develop our plans for the video in which case we will be updating our treatment pitch with clear ideas and detailed plans of the video. I think that the audiences feedback has really helped my team and I to develop our ideas even more in order to make our video a success and has helped us see how important their feedback is as its best to know from someone elses perspective and making sure we meet our targets as an audience.

Case Studies (3) - Analysing Music Video

'Fancy' - Iggy Azalea ft Charli XCX

This music video that I will be analysing is by Iggy azalea featuring CharlieXCX 'Fancy'.  This song is very Pop yet from a Hip hop flow as the artist is a female rapper. It was released in February 2014 and was classified as Vevo's  most watched music video in 2014 in America.

Above is the singles art cover, featured in it are the 2 artists  Iggy and Charlie. Both are almost sketched out, CharlieXCX being on the shirt in which Iggy Azalea is wearing. Similarly like the 'Post To Be' single cover, both use cartoon or sketched out image of themselves to bring attention the the song.

Case Studies (2) - Analysing Music Video

'Your Love ' - Nicki Minaj

This is the video to Nicki Minaj, "Your Love" is a song by Trinidadian-born recording artist Nicki Minaj, taken from her debut studio album Pink Friday  (2010). It was released on June 1, 2010 by Young Money, Cash Money, and Universal Mowtown as the lead single of the album. The song was written by Minaj, Joseph Hughes, David Freedman, and Andrew "Pop" Wansel, and was produced by the latter.

Described as a "rap ballad", the song is a change of tempo compared to Minaj's previous work, and according to Mariel Concepcion of Billboard, the song contains a "new brand of hood majesty." The song heavily samples Annie Lennox's  1995 cover version of the song "No More I Love You's" (1986) by The Lover Speaks, using its background vocals with additional bass, hip-hop backbeats and drum loops added.

The song received mostly positive reviews from critics, complimenting Minaj's singing and rapping flexibility, and the use of the Lennox sample. The song peaked at numbers 14 and four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip Hop song  charts.

This is an narrative video as it portrays love being taken and destroyed by others and war between two girls fighting over this boy whom they both love.

However the boy loves the main actress ( played as Nicki Minaj) and by the battle between her and the girl fighting , Nicki does and he's left heartbroken. Almost like a Romeo and Juliet theme of the ending her dying and leaving him in sorrow. In an interview, Minaj said, "We wanted to have geisha themes, samurai themes, stuff like that. I wanted to tell a love story. It's just kinda liking a guy, where he's not really for you to like — the forbidden fruit — and me and this other girl happen to like him and we go to war."

Case Studies (1) - Anaylising Music Video

'Post To Be' - Omarion Ft Chris Brown & Jhene Aiko

This is  the first video that I have analysed for this case study, 'Post To Be' by Omarion featuring Chris Brown and Jhene Aiko. The genre of the track is R&B and Pop, it involves 3 artist performing, all the artist in the video come from the same background genre of music. Below is the tracks single cover,  made the artists into cartoons as the songs genre it differentiates itself from music in that category of songs today. Also, that their attracting the attention of new audience which are young adults and teenagers.

All the artist are dancing, 2 of the male singers are dancing solo and the girl is dancing as well. I that through the lyrics there is in some extent a narrative story but also on themselves for instance their style and life.

 Narrative & Concept

From the opening lyrics of the track, " If your chick come close to me, She ain't going home where she post to be."  Already tells the narrative of the story from which the audience can notify also as this verse is related often throughout the song. then followed on is, "I'm getting money like I'm Post to Be, I'm getting money like I'm Post to Be." this shows that the song goes to different topics meaning there isn't really a narrative as if there was it would stick to the subject of the 'chick' coming close to him and not being where she's supposed to me which is with her boyfriend or lover.

However, I have price in some of the lyrics that the topic it most focuses on his sex. Not surprising as most successful R&B tracks today are usually on the discussion of sex. This video is therefore performance based as the surrounding, directed in a white backdrop with just the three artists performing as they would do in a concert.

Camera Angles & Shots

I think that this video is very a like to the other R&B music videos performance based today as for instance, the dancing and the car ( Ferrari).

The dancing makes the song more enjoyable to the viewer and listener and the car shows a sign of wealth as most artists feature cars in their video. But also that it was featured through the lines of, " she about to ride out with me" and also short clips of the car inside and out.

The opening scene of the video, is of the three artists standing in a line and from a very long shot, to long shot and then to a medium shot angle. This was according to the beat at the beginning, 3 beats to match 3 shots.

This is something I can take into consideration for my music video, makes the video flow very nicely matching the beat that hits in the song to shot.

Very long shots were used for this video, I think this was because of the amount of people in the song.

But also that the space in which this video was filmed in is large, wanted to show that and most of the artists were dancing so it would of been much clearer to see them dancing in this angle.

Beside, is of the medium close up used on the lines of, " these chicks before everybody".
This  below, was the only extreme close up shot in the video that I've seen. this comes on the lines, " your chick".I think that this was used to add an extremely close up shot into the video, considering the fact that the video uses a lot of very long shots throughout the song.

High shot angle was also used in the video in the lines of, " But I had her screaming, oohh."  This was used to relate towards the sound "oohh"This is something that I can add towards my music video for instance the bridge part of the song or gap in the song when it's only instrumental I can film a bird's eye view of something like the sky or buildings.

Effects
These mirroring effects were often used in the video of the nude model painted in gold. this is done using a medium close up shot.  Models are often used in music videos, this model is used for symbolism in the topic of wealth. The colour gold representing money and luxury and it pouring down on her ( the gold paint) could suggest that more money coming their way.

This link with the repetition of the lines, " I'm getting money like I'm post to be, I'm getting money like I'm post to be." This suggests that the song has an economical theme.

However, considering the fact that the model is nude, it also links with the song having the topic of sex.
Most of the close up shots are of objects such as, a typewriter. But to add more colour to the video they've used to it's seems to be paint in the colours of red, blue and white pouring on the machine.

This is interesting and somewhat used in many other videos to add something else to the video, kind of like art. This is also showing a mirroring effect, to differentiate the video a bit more making the more seem creative.
Misc- En- Scene

The wardrobe for the video was very urban and in relation to its genre. The male artists wore 2 to 3 different outfits in the video compared to the female artist only wearing one. The main artist, Omarion wore 3 outfits in the video, 2 being very urban and the other being classy and sophisticated in use of a hat themed from 50s.
Both of the male artists wore a pair of Timberland boots. Timberland boots are very common in the fashion industry for male celebrities today but also people in general and most their target audience.

So I do think that by them wearing the same boots and these boots in particular was to grab the attention of the audience and usually music videos are known for their fashion , like what the artist is wearing and if they can be able to buy the same wear.

Here is an image to one of Chris Brown's outfits in the video.  this outfit in particular has an effect to the video. As the video is based in a wide white backdrop, this bright colour red shirt adds more colour into the video considering the fact that most of the artists outfits are black.

Also that most of the young adults today would be seen wearing this outfit so its in relation to what their audience would wear today as fashion is changing.

Jhene Aiko, as the only female in this track, I think that her outfit is under the influence of the men in the video.

This is what young girls today admire, female artists in urban wear. I think by her only having one outfit for the video is not a good idea as she is the only female and most of her female mans would want to see more out of her and what she wear.

However, I think that the outfit is also in relation to what they would wear because, most female artists would wear expensive and luxurious clothing from well known designers. But she chose to wear this to show them that they can also buy the same outfit of clothing as it is very basic yet stylish.

And also because she only has one verse in the song she wouldn't really need to have another outfit. For Chris Brown's case he sings in the chorus and has a verse of his own so it would be logical for him to appear more in a different outfit.

In conclusion, this video has been an inspiration towards my music video that I'll be soon shooting. From the camera angles and to wardrobe in relation towards its audience has given me an insight on what I could do to my video to relate very well to its genre and be in an interests towards its targeted audience.

Bahja Rodriguez - Jealous Type Final music track

This is my groups final music track, this is by artist who is now releasing solo music and becoming a solo artist. This is very Pop and R&B, which makes it very likeable and different. As most artists  tend to focus on one music genre instead of mixing it up to have a wider audience and field to music.

This is a lyrical video of the song, and from the title of the song 'Jealous Type' we almost know what the narrative of the story. The narrative of the song is, a girl telling the guy that she's the one for him even though he's seeing someone else and that she can do more for him than she can, overall she's not jealous.

Group for A2 Media

I've  changed groups for the music video work and now  I am working with Sumaya, Maraam and Jumana. I changed groups because I thought that my other group did not have the same ideas and visions as me. Also music genre was different to what I had in mind for the video. I am now happy to be working with these girls as we have the music tastes and I think that this song best suits us. We've all had a listen to the song and immediately into it.
